For 65 years, Nevins has helped adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Charlotte find real jobs, build independence, and belong in their community — through every recession, pandemic, and budget fight in between.
But Nevins runs almost entirely on Medicaid funding, and those rates haven't kept up with the real cost of care. After a year of North Carolina budget turmoil — cuts announced, reversed, then patched with one-time money — they've been pushed into back-to-back deficits. Private donations make up just a few cents of every dollar they operate on.
