Bite by Bite: Make Climate-Smart Eating the Norm

Food is the most accessible, joyful, and impactful lever we have to take on climate change. It’s also one of the most underused.

BITE: Building Impact Through Eaters (formerly Food for Climate League) shifts the narratives, environments, and skills that shape what people eat.

Eaters are open to climate-smart food. The opportunity sits with the food operators who decide what gets served and what feels normal, and who, until now, haven’t had the tools to act on it.

That’s the gap BITE closes. We translate narrative and behavioral science into practical tools, then build capacity in the chefs, food operators, and media personnel - who shape food culture- so the climate-smart choice becomes the easy, appealing, obvious one.

The three largest contract foodservice companies in the world — Sodexo, Compass Group, and Aramark — are BITE partners. In 2025, we activated interventions at 42 partner sites, reaching more than 95,000 eaters and documenting a 10% reduction in food-related greenhouse gas emissions across university and corporate dining halls.

By 2030, our goal is to influence the food choices of 100 million eaters through the foodservice operators who feed millions of Americans every day. We get there not by adding sites one at a time, but by scaling through the largest foodservice operator.
