Description
Antibiotic-resistant infections are becoming harder to treat because bacteria and fungi can evolve around drugs designed to kill them. However, these pathogens cannot grow and reproduce without iron.
Fe Pharmaceuticals’ lead candidate, DIBI, is a purpose-built polymer designed to lock up extracellular iron before pathogens can use it while leaving iron inside healthy cells alone. Instead of attacking one microbial target, DIBI aims to starve a broad range of infections and may strengthen the effect of existing antibiotics. DIBI remains preclinical, but its evidence base includes 29 peer-reviewed studies, multiple animal models, and three issued U.S. patents.
Support would fund manufacturing qualification, selection of the first clinical indication, IND-enabling safety studies, and FDA preparation needed to move DIBI toward its first human trial.
