Millions of Americans are at risk of losing their SNAP benefits at the end of this month due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. As we confront the growing hunger crisis, we have the power to make a difference together. In Oregon alone, 757,000 people rely on SNAP to put food on the table. If benefits are halted, families across our state, including more than 300,000 individuals in the Portland area, may be left without this vital lifeline.

At Sunshine Division, we were already preparing for the annual influx of need during the holiday season. Now, we are also preparing to meet this increased, urgent need. As a long-standing, trusted, unwavering source of support for families facing food insecurity, we are asking for your support to make sure households in the Portland-metro area have the food they need to feed their families.

Beginning November 1st, Sunshine Division will:

1) Expand home food box delivery by 200 deliveries per week, which would mean 650 additional families will get groceries delivered right to their doorstep. This represents an increase of about $20,000 for four weeks.

2) Increase food pantry capacity and hours to meet an estimated 100 additional clients per week, adding about $15,000 in monthly costs.

3) Increase our volume of Thanksgiving holiday boxes/meals by 750 additional deliveries and distributions, adding an additional $25,000 expense.
