Reunite Street Children with Their Families in Kenya

Agape is the word the Bible uses to describe the transformational love of Jesus Christ for all of us, and forms the cornerstone of all of Agape’s work to reconcile children with God and family through the Good News and transformative love of Christ. This ministry has such a huge impact in the lives of thousands of Kenyan street children who ended up alone and homeless for a variety of reasons, often dealing with trauma of abuse and drug addiction from a very young age. The local Kenyan team walks the streets daily to find these kids, build relationships, and invite them to come stay at Agape where they are rehabilitated and provided shelter, food, clothing, education, and God’s love. It is voluntary for the children to participate. Once there, the hard work begins for the team to locate the child’s family and determine if there is a safe option for them to return home or find an option with an extended family member that is safe. They do extensive family follow ups after re-homing the children and have a fantastic success rate resulting in children growing up in community with families rather than being institutionalized until 18 and released with no support system. This method combined with the message of Jesus’s love makes all the difference.

Agape Children’s Ministry rescues street and other at-risk children in Kenya using their successful “Four Rs” family based care model of ministry:

• RESCUE as many children from the streets as we can.

• REDEEM by sharing the life-changing message of the Gospel.

• REHABILITATE by providing extensive Christ-centered, trauma-based counseling to help children deal with the trauma they have endured, and by providing medical and academic assistance.

• REINTEGRATE by responsibly placing the children back into their families or extended families and periodic home visits, until age 18, to ensure the child’s wellbeing.

Agape provides consulting and training to other child care institutions in an effort to expand family reconciliation efforts in Kenya and elsewhere.
