This summer, my world turned upside down when my mom faced a spiraling health crisis. What began with COVID quickly escalated into a collapsed lung, severe lung clots, emergency surgery, and a dangerous form of pneumonia. For two harrowing months, we lived hour by hour in the hospital, uncertain if she would survive.

In those long hospital days and longer nights, I stepped into a role I'd never imagined: becoming my mother's caregiver. The woman who has always been my rock, my protector, now needed me to be hers. I found myself navigating an overwhelming maze of physician rounds, medication schedules, and critical care decisions. Even in a hospital with 24-hour care, I learned that patient advocacy becomes a family's most vital task.

Today, against all odds and to her doctors' amazement, my mom has made a near-full recovery. She's once again the person we feared we'd lost. But this experience has opened my eyes to the silent struggles of millions of family caregivers across America. Caregiving is one of life's most challenging roles - physically, emotionally, and financially. Whether it lasts two months or two decades, it can shake a family to its core.

This is why I'm raising money for the Caregiver Action Network (National Family Caregivers Association), a nonprofit organization providing free education, peer support, and resources to family caregivers nationwide. These services are lifelines for families navigating their own caregiving journeys, often alone and overwhelmed.
