The Tor network is an invaluable tool for journalists, activists, vulnerable individuals, and everyday privacy seekers looking to bypass censorship and avoid tracking on the internet.
While the Tor Project itself develops the software and operates valuable infrastructure, its privacy-preserving network relies on a huge network of independent, community volunteer-run relay servers to carry that traffic.
This is why I'm fundraising for the Tor Project as well as three different nonprofit Tor relay operators: Emerald Onion, Triplebit, and Unredacted. These three organizations are some among many who are operating high-capacity privacy-focused infrastructure for the public good.
I'm matching all donations up to $3000! Which means if you donate, 50% of your donation will go to the Tor Project, 50% to Emerald Onion, 50% to Triplebit, and 50% to Unredacted = 200%! 😎🎉
I've included summaries and the websites of each organization below for your information.
Join me in championing the future of online privacy and security. Your support will help strengthen vital infrastructure that empowers individuals to navigate the internet freely and safely, ensuring that everyone has access to the information they need without compromising their personal data.
TOR PROJECT: https://www.torproject.org/
Tor helps keep you safe on the Internet. Their mission is to advance human rights and freedoms by creating and deploying free and open source anonymity and privacy technologies, supporting their unrestricted availability and use, and furthering their scientific and popular understanding.
To that end, Tor develops the Tor Browser, where you can experience real private browsing without tracking, surveillance, or censorship. Tor relies on a network of volunteer-run relay servers to provide its strong privacy protections, which is where our other three organizations come in.
TRIPLEBIT: https://www.triplebit.org/
Founded in 2024, Triplebit (AS 401332) is a nonprofit transit internet service provider (ISP) operating in Minneapolis, MN. Its mission is to protect and uphold the rights to privacy, access to information, anonymity, and free speech.
To further this mission, Triplebit's infrastructure supports the Tor and I2P networks, censorship-resistant VPNs, Monero, the Privacy Guides (privacyguides.org) educational project, and other privacy-related programs.
Triplebit's infrastructure is run out of Minneapolis, MN (US), Kansas City, MO (US), and Warsaw (PL); as well as smaller points-of-presence in other locations.
UNREDACTED: https://unredacted.org/
Founded in 2024, Unredacted (AS 401401) operates FreeSocks, a free VPN specifically designed to bypass censorship using Xray-powered VLESS, as well as a global network of Tor relays
Additionally, Unredacted operates app-specific censorship evasion proxies for Signal and Telegram, and secure free infrastructure like Matrix, Mastodon, XMPP, Blockchain nodes, and other services.
Unredacted's infrastructure is run out of Chicago, IL (US) and Kansas City, MO (US).
EMERALD ONION: https://emeraldonion.org/
Founded in 2017, Emerald Onion (AS 396507) is a Tor exit server operator, one of the first dedicated privacy networks in the United States to adopt the non-profit ISP model shared by all three of these organizations. They spoke at DEF CON 26 about the creation of their organization and how other potential organizers can start their own exit relay networks from scratch.
Emerald Onion is constantly pushing for improvements in the Tor relay operator space, and is currently fundraising for modern hardware which would allow them to explore the use of Trusted Execution Environments in relay server operations to reduce the trust required by users in relay operators, even themselves.
Emerald Onion's infrastructure is run out of Berlin (DE), Fremont, CA (US), and Seattle, WA (US).
