About this organization
Mission
Folkmoot is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that fosters the vibrancy of many cultures in one community. Our programs are based on cultural exchange and social inclusion, and are designed to build relationships, foster understanding and develop community prosperity. As hosts of the North Carolina International Folk Festival since 1983, we've welcomed over 8,000 performers from 130 countries. We're repurposing our 40,000 sq. ft. facility, the Historic Hazelwood School, into a multi-stakeholder, year-round resource for arts and cultural engagement, educational enrichment, creative entrepreneurship, and community development. We envision a community that welcomes diversity, celebrates multiculturalism, embraces creativity and participates wholeheartedly in activities that connect us.
