- Fyi drop in: the drop-in provides an after-school open house at the fyi backbay for free-standing and structured workshops. youth have access to art materials and a space in which to work; access to a bank of computers; xbox, wii and playstation games; foosball, air-hockey and other free-standing game tables; a lending library; and access to tutors as needed. drop-in occurs at st. peters church on thursdays and the fyi backbay on fridays for teens in grades 8?12. st. peters offers youth an open gym on thursdays. at the fyi backbay, youth have access to computers, tutors and art materials in free?standing and structured creative activities. - Earn a bike program: this program was brought to ferguson by the st. louis bicycle works. the students met every monday at the old ferguson fire house for five weeks learning bicycle safety and maintenance. in addition, each student earns a free bike. this st. louis bicycle works program gives youth the opportunity to earn a free bike while they learn about bicycle safety and maintenance from volunteers. the st. louis bicycle works earn-a-bike program aims to teach kids that they can set goals and reach them. everyone deserves the chance to dream, and to follow those dreams, by challenging themselves, testing their abilities and reaching for more. the youth work independently and in groups to solve problems. they must attend every session to graduate. during this free earn a bike program, kids attend a series of hands-on courses held one day a week for six weeks. they learn about bikes, including maintenance and safety, but the other lessons they learn are even more valuable. they learn to solve problems individually and as a group. they also learn a sense of responsibility as students must attend every session to graduate. upon graduation, kids receive their own bike, helmet, light and lock and participate in a group safety ride with adults and peers. per information provided on st. louis bworks website Expenses 0.
- Slam: slam offers young people inviting and positive opportunities to connect with others through healthy, creative epression and recreation on a monthly basis. young people gather to witness professional artists in action. guests are also able to learn techniques & try their hand in it. basically, slam is an open mic night just for young people once every month, we give young people the mic, the stage and/or whatever platform needed. we welcome art in all forms: painting, singing karaoke, singing / rapping original music, poetry, cooking demos and more earn a computer: the st. louis byte works earn-a-computer program aims to teach kids that they can set goals and reach them. we believe that everyone deserves the chance to dream, and to follow those dreams, by challenging themselves, testing their abilities and reaching for more. during this free six-week program, kids attend a series of hands-on courses. the courses are designed for 4th-8th grade students. the following subjects are covered: introduction to computers internet and safety on the internet word processing with openoffice writer creating presentations with openoffice impress computer programming using mits scratch software assembling the computer and connecting to the internet spot 394: transforms facilities into a pop-up youth center where young people can play games, listen to music, and engage in other youth-centric activities. other programs include fcsp ferguson community service program, pinewood classic and ferguson youth advisory board.
