About

Schedule on Northeast Medical Group (NEMG), established in 2010 as part of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS), has grown to include more than 2,000 employees including over 1,000 medical professionals. NEMG is a system-wide, not-for-profit multispecialty medical group that includes physicians and advanced practice clinicians. Over the past year, NEMG saw a 7.2 percent increase in clinician growth through recruitment, adding 106 physicians and 61 advanced practice clinicians. The group also addressed initiatives related to service and facility growth, clinical quality and patient satisfaction. NEMG extended clinical services by establishing its hospitalist program at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, providing medical care and coverage to a long-term acute care patient population. All NEMG practices started participating in daily safety huddles, similar to those conducted at each of the health system's hospitals, to increase communication about potential safety concerns. The safety effort also included the implementation of ambulatory practice education and training designed to increase the reporting of safety concerns through an online tool, RL Solutions. NEMG participated in a systemwide opioid stewardship initiative to ensure compliance with best practices amid rising concerns about narcotics abuse and addiction with communities served. Physician education on alternative administration routes proved critical in lowering pill counts. Specific initiatives were introduced to address the patient experience across all NEMG practices, with practices implementing initiatives that addressed patient satisfaction and service. One such initiative, Zocdoc online appointment scheduling, saw a 47 percent increase in booked appointments and contributed to improved patient satisfaction scores. Another initiative worked with NEMG hospitalists on communication, resulting in a 3.3 percent increase in patient satisfaction as reported through HCAHPS. To further improve both the patient and provider experience, NEMG's medical group practices continued to use virtual scribes, tap and go technology and advanced dictation software. All initiatives were designed to increase direct communication between patient and provider, increase documentation accuracy and reduce the amount of time providers spend in the electronic medical record. Northeast Medical Group participated in Medicare, Medicaid and commercial value-based programs as well as payer contracting arrangements that promote value-based care. These included a comprehensive spine program; an oncology care management program though Smilow Cancer Hospital; a comprehensive care for joint replacement bundled payment model at all YNHHS hospitals and a shared value program at Westerly Hospital with University Orthopedics, an independent orthopedics practice. To better reflect the diversity of our patients and our communities, NEMG, as part of Yale New Haven Health System, expanded programming that addressed unconscious bias, societal stigma and LGBTQ awareness. NEMG established a diversity and inclusion council that focused on education and awareness, community outreach and talent management. Community outreach efforts focused on health education and free health screenings highlighting various health topics.
