In November 2018 we were able to reopen the gardens to the public after being closed due to the Thomas Fire since December 2017. Concurrent with the reopening, we completed a half-million dollar Welcome Center and Plaza. Combined with additional fencing we are now able to control access to the gardens. During the closure, the bulk of the activity was repairing considerable damage to garden pathways and plantings, costing over $70,000 in expense dollars. In addition, $130,000 capital dollars were spent on garden pathways development, primarily erosion control activity necessitated by the fire damage. Finally, $135,000 capital dollars were spent on developing sponsor sites, some of which was also necessitated by fire damage.
