TO PROMOTE EFFECTIVE CARE AND TREATMENT OF INDIVIDUALS WITH MENTAL ILLNESS.

About

MHAPA PROVIDED ADVOCACY IN ALL OF THE STATE OPERATED MENTAL HEALTH FACILITIES AND JUVENILE JUSTICE FACILITIES. THE ADVOCATES PROVIDED ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT TO INDIVIDUALS RECEIVING SERVICES AT THE STATE OPERATED FACILITIES, INCLUDING HELPING INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WITH QUESTIONS, CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS REGARDING CARE AND TREATMENT, WORKING TO FACILITATE COMMUNITY LIVING, PROVIDING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND EDUCATION REGARDING RIGHTS, AND ENSURING THE INDIVIDUALS RIGHTS WHILE IN THE FACILITY. IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE FACILITIES OUR ADVOCATES HAD A TOTAL OF 2,476 ACTIVITIES AND 1,884 CLIENT CONTACTS DURING FISCAL YEAR 2018-2019. IN THE MENTAL HEALTH FACILITIES OUR ADVOCATES HAD A TOTAL OF 17,514 ACTIVITIES AND 10,760 CLIENT CONTACTS DURING FISCAL YEAR 2018-2019. MHAPA PROVIDES BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NAVIGATORS WHO ASSIST ANYONE SEEKING INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES AND SUPPORT. THIS PROGRAM FIELDED APPROXIMATELY 450 CALLS AND EMAIL INQUIRIES IN FISCAL YEAR 2018-2019. MHAPA STAFF PARTICIPATED IN THE STATE'S REVIEW OF RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITIES BY INTERVIEWING THE YOUTH RECEIVING SERVICES IN THE FACILITIES. MHAPA STAFF PARTICIPATED IN THE STATE'S MONITORING REVIEWS OF 16 YOUTH RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITIES INTERVIEWING APPROXIMATELY 400 YOUTH. MHAPA PROVIDES WORKSHOPS/TRAININGS ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS INCLUDING STATE OF THE MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM IN PA, CLIENT RIGHTS, MENTAL HEALTH ADVANCE DIRECTIVES AND RECOVERY. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION, MHAPA'S BEHAVIORAL HEALTH NAVIGATOR PROVIDED INFORMATION REGARDING ACCESSING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND INSURANCE COVERAGE IN THE COMMUNITY AT 11 SCI REENTRY FAIRS AND 15 PRESENTATIONS FOR THE REENTRY AND TRANSITIONAL HOUSING UNITS. THE GOAL IS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION REGARDING THE CHANGES IN THE INSURANCE ENVIRONMENT SINCE THEIR INITIAL INCARCERATION SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS WHEN RELEASED; AND TO PROVIDE A RESOURCE THEY CAN CONTACT IF THEY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS UPON THEIR RETURN TO THE COMMUNITY. MHAPA CO-SPONSORED A STATEWIDE EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE WITH WORKSHOP TOPICS SUCH AS PEER SUPPORT, LIVING WITH MENTAL ILLNESS AFTER INCARCERATION AND SUICIDE PREVENTION. WE REACHED APPROXIMATELY 1,750 INDIVIDUALS. MHAPA ALSO PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY 1,200 PRINTED GUIDES TO ASSIST PEOPLE IN THE COMPLETION OF MENTAL HEALTH ADVANCE DIRECTIVES. MHAPA CONTINUED ITS WORK TO REDUCE STIGMA BY CONDUCTING THE I'M THE EVIDENCE MENTAL HEALTH CAMPAIGN WHICH IS A GRASSROOTS CAMPAIGN TO RAISE AWARENESS THAT EVERYONE CAN POSITIVELY IMPACT THE LIVES OF PEOPLE IN MENTAL HEALTH RECOVERY. TO DATE WE HAVE 730 AMBASSADORS AND 780 FOLLOWERS ON FACEBOOK AND TWITTER WHO USE OUR CAMPAIGN TOOLS TO REDUCE STIGMA IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOODS. MHAPA USES SOCIAL MEDIA, WEBSITE AND ALERTS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION, PROMOTE EVENTS AND SUPPORT THE WORK OF OUR PARTNERS. MHAPA PUBLISHES A QUARTERLY ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER (NEWSFEED). WE REACH APPROXIMATELY 2,400 PEOPLE VIA OUR DATA BASE, FACEBOOK AND TWITTER POSTS.
