Mission

The NLTHS preserves, presents and interprets the history of North Lake Tahoe both in a regional context and in the larger context of the American West. We do this in a manner that is engaging, educational and culturally sensitive through innovative programming and exhibits at the Gatekeeper's and Watson Cabin Museums of the NLTHS. The Gatekeeper's Museum and Watson Cabin place emphasis on the cultural and geographical histories that influenced the development of North Lake Tahoe. The Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum places emphasis on the historical and contemporary basketry traditions of Western North America, and seeks to promote cultural awareness through programming in collaboration and consultation with Native American weavers and scholars.

About

Museum operations: The Gatekeeper's Museum was open year round: open seven hours a day, seven days a week between Memorial Day and October and open Wednesday through Sunday October through Memorial Day. The Watson Cabin was open four hours a day Thursday through Sunday between June and Labor Day and remains closed the rest of the year.
