MAINSTAY LIFE SERVICES (MAINSTAY) HAS PROVIDED RESIDENTIAL AND RELATED SUPPORTS TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, AND THEIR FAMILIES, FOR 49 YEARS. CURRENTLY, THE ORGANIZATION IS SUPPORTING 355 PEOPLE THROUGH 24-HOUR FULL-CARE HOMES, SEMI-INDEPENDENT LIVING, SUPPORTED LIVING, HOME AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTS, AND A SUMMER RESPITE PROGRAM.MAINSTAY OPERATES 55 COMMUNITY HOME AND APARTMENT PROGRAMS, WHICH SERVE APPROXIMATELY 150 ADULTS. THE ORGANIZATION OWNS THE MAJORITY OF THESE RESIDENCES, WHICH INCLUDE SEVERAL SPECIALIZED HOMES DESIGNED FOR THOSE WITH BEHAVIORAL ISSUES, PHYSICAL HANDICAPS, AUTISM, AND DIMINISHING PHYSICAL CAPACITY AND INCREASING MEDICAL NEEDS DUE TO AGING. MAINSTAY ALSO OPERATES FIVE MULTI-RESIDENT COMMUNITY HOMES SERVING ADULTS WITH PRADER-WILLI SYNDROME, A RARE GENETIC DISORDER.THE SUMMER RESPITE AND RECREATION PROGRAM AND HOME AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTS ARE AVAILABLE TO THOSE WHO ARE LIVING AT HOME WITH THEIR BIOLOGICAL FAMILIES, BY THEMSELVES, OR WITH A HOST FAMILY. THE SUMMER PROGRAM SERVES 85 ADULTS ANNUALLY, MEETS A VITAL COMMUNITY NEED AND IS UNDUPLICATED IN WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. HOME AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTS PROVIDES SERVICES TO 120 ADULTS AND CHILDREN WHO DESIRE TO LIVE IN THEIR OWN HOME OR IN THEIR FAMILY HOME AND NEED ASSISTANCE TO DO SO.ALL SERVICES PROVIDED ARE PERSON-CENTERED AND TAILORED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF EACH PERSON AND ALL LEVELS OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. MAINSTAY ASSISTS PEOPLE WITH LIVING MEANINGFUL AND SUCCESSFUL LIVES WHILE HELPING THEM TO LEARN NEW SKILLS, DEVELOP FRIENDSHIPS, AND GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF THOSE SERVED ARE FULLY INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY, WITH GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT AND A HIGH LEVEL OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND INDEPENDENCE.
