Maki International's mission is to help impoverished women in Ayacucho, Peru through sustainable enterprise and education. Maki International works with women throughout Ayacucho, Peru, the location of the genocide and atrocities of the conflict between the Peruvian military and the Shining Path in the 1980's and 1990's, by providing the framework for creating, exporting, and selling the beautiful knit goods and handicrafts made using the Peruvian women's existing talents and traditions. Maki also offer programs in various subjects such as parenting and self-esteem, classes in reading, and career opportunities to participants.

About

Maki International works with three groups of women in Ayacucho, Peru.Maki works with women in Yanamilla prison, whom are mostly incarcerated for drug trafficking. We have built a classroom where we teach art, ceramics, sewing and card making. Most of the items they create are sold locally in Ayacucho. Some of the women knit as well and these items are shipped to the United States to be sold on line and to our supporters.We organize and bring supplies, food, etc., to the prison during all of the holiday celebrations. We continue to provide supplies and improvements to the preschool that we helped establish in the prison for the children under four years of age whom reside there with their mothers.Maki Intl works with the womenb
