PURPOSE: To provide economic, cultural, religious and social activities that enhance the quality of life in the greater hilltop area of Columbus, Ohio.

Summer HYPE: In 2018, the Greater Hilltop Area Shalom Zone launched the first year of Summer HYPE. HYPE stands for Hilltop Young People Excel. Children were encouraged to have pride in themselves and in their Hilltop community as part of this retooled summer day camp program. The program operated at Crossroads UMC and West Broad Elementary. Breakfast, lunch and snacks were served each day. A drug free poster contest was held at each site and the best poster was submitted to ADAMHs poster collection for judging. Field trips included traveling to the Highland Youth Garden once a week and to the Hilltop branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library several times. During the tour of the Ohio Statehouse, State Senator Charleta Tavares asked the group to stand and be recognized. At the Anthony Thomas Candy Factory, children observed local manufacturing in action. The summer culminated in a trip to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and Zoombezi Bay which included families.
