During the 2018 tax year, Bikes for the World (BFW) enlisted the participation and assistance of some 60 U.S. community service organizations, 20 local businesses and bicycle retailers, and 1,000 individual volunteers to collect 10,325 used bicycles and donate them to program partners in eight countries: El Salvador, Costa Rica, Barbados, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, and Kenya. Bicycles donated abroad provided access to employment, skills training, education, and health care. Bicycles donated in the United States provided transportation to low-income workers, and training and recreational opportunities for at-risk youth. BFW's volunteer-based efforts provide educational and rewarding community service opportunities to volunteers of all ages, enabling many to meet service requirements for high school graduation, Boy Scout and Girl Scout Eagle and Gold ranks, bar mitzvah service, and more.
