VITA- the organization was funded by the IRS to implement the free tax preparation Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in El Paso County. The organization serves as the fiscal agent and lead agency for the Coalition for Family Economic Progress (CFEP) which is a community organization VITA partnership. In 2014, 19 tax sites were operated assisting 6,067 low income families obtain free tax preparation service and providing them outreach to other partner services, including financial education. $10,700,000 in refunds were secured at no cost for taxpayers. Saving approximately $1.34 Million in preparation fees to low income families.
