About

ADULT DAYCARE CENTER / MEAL SITE / COMMUNITY OUTREACH ANNAM COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION HAS EXPERIENCED EXTRAORDINARY DEVELOPMENTS, BOTH IN TERMS OF PROGRAM SERVICES AND NUMBER OF PEOPLE SERVED. HOWEVER, WE FIND THE CONTINUATION OF THE CENTER'S CROSS-CULTURAL ASSIMILATION, AND RELATED EFFORTS OF BRINGING TOGETHER THE VAST ARRAY OF ETHNICITIES WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY, TO BE THE MOST REWARDING. OUR MOST CELEBRATED EVENT OF THE YEAR WAS THE LAUNCHING OF THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL IN OCTOBER. IT WAS A TRUE CELEBRATION OF BRINGING PEOPLE FROM MORE THAN SIX LOCAL CULTURAL COMMUNITIES TOGETHER TO CONNECT, COLLABORATE, AND FOSTER FRIENDSHIPS. THIS EVENT SHOWCASED INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPATING ETHNIC COMMUNITIES, EACH WITH A FULLY DECORATED EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTING THEIR RESPECTIVE HISTORIES, LEGENDS, CULTURES, ART, AND FOLKLORES. CULTURAL ENTERTAINMENT, OUTDOOR EVENTS, AND ETHNIC FOOD SAMPLING ATTRACTED HUNDREDS OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS. NEIGHBORING BUSINESSES OFFERED THEIR PARKING LOTS FOR MUCH-NEEDED ACCOMMODATIONS. DURING THE 2018 YEAR, ANNAM CDC PROVIDED FRESH AND WELL-BALANCED MEAL SERVICES, INCLUDING SNACKS, ON-SITE FOR 98 AT-RISK SENIORS EVERY MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. A MAJORITY OF THESE SENIORS DEPEND ON THESE DAILY MEALS AS THEIR PRIMARY SOURCE OF NUTRITION. THEREFORE, THE BOARD HAS DECIDED TO PLACE MORE EMPHASIS ON ENSURING THAT THE CENTER PROVIDE OUR SENIOR COMMUNITY WITH THE BEST QUALITY MEAL THAT WE CAN POSSIBLY PROVIDE. TO PREPARE THESE HISPANIC, VIETNAMESE, AND AMERICAN CUISINE MEALS, HOME- GROWN VEGETABLES ARE REGULARLY HARVESTED FROM THE CENTER GARDEN. THIS PRACTICE HAS PROVED TO BE INCREDIBLY VALUABLE TO THE OVERALL SUCCESS OF OUR MEAL SITE PROGRAM, OVER TIME BECOMING A FOCAL ASPECT OF OUR ORGANIZATION'S EXPENDITURES AND VOLUNTEER EFFORTS. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, OUR SEASONAL HARVEST MAY INCLUDE MUSTARD GREENS, SPINACH, GREEN BEANS, WINGED BEAN, TOMATOES, OPO SQUASH, BITTER MELON, AND A NUMBER OF EXOTIC HERBS. A GREAT MAJORITY OF THESE SENIORS PARTICIPATED IN FIFTEEN DIFFERENT PROGRAM SERVICES, SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF A GREATLY DIVERSIFIED POPULATION. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: ZEN TAI CHI, WELL- BALANCED MEALS, COMPUTER LAB, PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES, A FAST-GROWING GARDEN CLUB, FIELD TRIPS, THE MUTUAL AID FUND, HAIRCUTS, BINGO, SOCIAL SERVICE REFERRALS, MONTHLY HEALTH SCREENINGS AND IMMUNIZATIONS.
