WE ADVOCATE AND FACILITATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NETWORK OF MULTIPURPOSE RECREATIONAL TRAILS IN NORTHERN LOWER MICHIGAN. CURRENTLY THERE ARE 325 MILES OF TRAIL IN OUR INVENTORY AND MOST ARE CLASSIFIED AS "IMPROVED."

2019 ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE:PROVIDED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO LOCAL TRAIL COMMITTEES FOR THE BURT LAKE TRAIL, BOYNE VALLEY TRAILWAY, LITTLE TRAVERSE WHEELWAY, BOYNE CITY TO CHARLEVOIX TRAIL, AND THE NORTHWESTERN TRAIL.ADMINISTERED THE 10TH ANNUAL SMART COMMUTE WEEK FOR EMMET COUNTY.WORKED WITH THE MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES TO REPAIR A DANGEROUS ON AND OFF RAMP SECTION OF A PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE ON THE NORTHWESTERN STATE TRAIL. CONTINUED COLLABORATION WITH TART TRAILS OF TRAVERSE CITY TO INCREASE PROJECT TO OVER 3 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE TRAVERSE CITY TO CHARLEVOIX TRAIL. HIRED THE ENGINEERING FIRM C2AE TO BEGIN ENGINEERING FOR THE FISHERMAN'S ISLAND STATE PARK SECTION OF THE TRAIL.WELCOMED AND GUIDED OVER 1000 VISITORS TO TRAILS FROM OUR REGIONAL TRAIL CENTER. COMPLETED THE THIRD YEAR OF OUR KIDS BIKING INITIATIVE THAT ALLOWED OVER 345 4TH GRADERS IN EMMET COUNTY TO RIDE A BIKE 10 MILES ON A TRAIL.COMPLETED OUR 4TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF RACES THAT ATTRACTED OVER 600 RUNNERS TO COMPETE IN A FULL MARATHON, A HALF MARATHON, A 10K RACE, TWO 5K RACES AND GIRLS ON THE RUN DURING MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. CONTINUED TO PROVIDE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR MAINTENANCE ISSUES ON MDNR TRAILS.PROVIDED TRAIL MAINTENANCE WORK CREWS FOR EMMET COUNTY TO CLEAN WINTER DEBRIS OFF THE TRAILS IN ANTICIPATION OF THE JUNE OPENING OF TRAIL SEASON.ACQUIRED FUNDING TO COMPLETE A BIKING MAP FOR NORTHERN MICHIGAN AND A PROJECT TO COMPLETE A LONG TERM STRATEGIC PLAN TO BUILD OUT THE NON-MOTORIZED TRAIL SYSTEM IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN.
