UNI is a community development organization in the Springwells neighborhood in Southwest Detroit that is working with the community to a build safe and thriving environment where people want to live, work, and play. We accomplish our mission by working in the following areas: Land Use and Economic Development, Education, and Youth Development. Land Use and Economic Development: Development of public assets. Engaging partners and community to clean, beautify and maintain vacant land through the Land Stewardship Program. Engaging in social enterprise through Southwest Rides Bikes and Boards. $242,630 invested in 2018.Education: Supporting our attendance teams at four local schools. As founding members of Every School Day Counts Detroit, launched a community-wide conversation around attendance and chronic absenteeism. Working to decrease chronic absenteeism to 15% by 2027. $169,808 invested in 2018. Youth development: Out-of-school time enrichment programs at All Saints Neighborhood Center and local schools with a focus on increasing the participants academic achievement. Youth leading change in their community through our youth leadership programs. Youth engaged in career exploration and Work force development through our youth employment programs. Youth engaged in recreation through the Southwest Detroit Athletic League. $889,883 invested in 2018.Additional 2018 investment, UNI engaged 2,456 volunteers to support our work and they provide 9,744 hours of service.
