YEAR (10/1/2018 - 9/30/2019) ACCOMPLISHMENTS: THE GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER BIRTHPLACE DISTRICT ASSOCIATION (CBA) WAS ACTIVE IN MANY ACTIVITIES DURING THE PERIOD FROM OCTOBER 1, 2018, THROUGH SEPTEMBER, 2019. THE ASSOCIATION, MEMBERSHIP CONSISTING OF UNPAID VOLUNTEERS, WAS FOUNDED IN 1943 TO ASSIST THE GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER NATIONAL MONUMENT IN DIAMOND, MO, IN THEIR EFFORTS TO PRESENT HISTORICAL AND EDUCATIONAL INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, AND TO PRESERVE AND PERPETUATE THE HISTORIC LEGACY OF DR. GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER. SPECIFICALLY DURING THIS PAST FISCAL YEAR, CBA PARTICIPATED IN ANNUAL EVENTS, INCLUDING PRAIRIE DAYS AND CARVER DAYS, ANNUAL EVENTS THAT DRAW HUNDREDS OF VISITORS TO THE NATIONAL MONUMENT FOR SYMPOSIUMS ON THE LIFE AND TIMES OF DR. CARVER, FOR MUSIC PERFORMANCES THAT RELATE TO THE MISSION OF THE MONUMENT, AND FOR INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS DEPICTING AMERICAN LIFE DURING THE PERIOD RELATING TO CARVER'S LIFE. CBA MAINTAINS A GIFT SHOP AT THE NATIONAL MONUMENT. THIS ENTERPRISE PROVIDES AN OUTLET FOR EDUCATIONAL AND COMMEMORATIVE ITEMS FOR THE PUBLIC TO PURCHASE TO INCREASE THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF HISTORY AND CAUSE THEM TO LATER REFLECT ON THEIR VISIT TO THE MONUMENT. THE BULK OF THE PROFITS FROM SALES ARE RETURNED TO THE GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER NATIONAL MONUMENT FOR USE IN THEIR PROGRAMS. CBA OWNS AND IS RESTORING THE 1872 NEOSHO COLORED SCHOOL, (LISTED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES). THIS RECONSTRUCTION ERA AFRICAN AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION IS THE FIRST SCHOOL ATTENDED BY GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER. TO FACILITATE THIS EFFORT, CBA SPONSORS CONTINUING FUNDRAISING EFFORTS AND SUPERVISES THE RESTORATION PROCESS. CBA IS GOVERNED BY A BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTED BY THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP. THESE BOARD MEMBERS ELECT FROM THEIR NUMBER A PRESIDENT, A VICE-PRESIDENT, A SECRETARY, AND A TREASURER. QUARTERLY BOARD MEETINGS ARE HELD, ALONG WITH ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING. FINANCIAL REPORTS ARE PRESENTED AND APPROVED AT THESE MEETINGS AND THE ASSOCIATION IS SUBJECTED TO AN ANNUAL AUDIT BY CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT.
