Mission

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City's mission is to create and support life-changing friendships for children.

About

For over 50 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City (BBBSKC) has served the Kansas City metropolitan area as the largest local youth mentoring organization. The agency's mission is to create life-changing friendships between children who are facing adversity (littles) and caring adult mentors (bigs). These friendships, or matches, are developed through a one-to-one community-based mentoring model. Each of these matches are professionally created and supported by BBBSKC staff. Matches are then assigned to a match support specialist, who ensures that each match is receiving the support and guidance needed to ensure longevity and safety throughout the duration of the match. As of 2019, BBBSKC supports 1,243 active matches within the greater Kansas City metropolitan area and has served over 44,000 children since its inception. However, the agency does maintain a waiting list of 448 children who are waiting to be matched with a mentor and friend.
