Fresh Directions - During 2019, the hot meals program, known as 'Fresh Directions Hot Meals for Kids', served children across the community who are food insecure. The organization collaborated with key community organizations to serve at risk children and support their efforts to help students reach developmental goals at nine sites during the school year and summer breaks. Partnering with community centers and community events, the organization was able to serve 75,231 hot meals and nutritious snacks. Since hot meals were provided to children by Fresh Directions, community partners were able to focus on their own empowerment activities for the children in their programs. Empowerment also occurred for the children who were served, because when a child is well fed, they are better able to succeed in school and other activities. The impact of the program is further emphasized by the adult and youth volunteers from churches, businesses, and community organizations who gave their talents and over 1,556 hours of their time to the hot meals program in 2019.
