About

2018 WAS THE FIFTH YEAR OF OPERATION FOR RUTHERFORD POOL AFTER RE-OPENING IN MAY, 2014. DURING THE 2018 SUMMER SEASON, THE POOL HAD NEARLY 20,000 VISITS, WITH APPROXIMATELY 70% OF PATRONS BEING CHILDREN/YOUTH. OVER 250 TODDLERS, CHILDREN AND YOUTH RECEIVED SWIM LESSONS. DAILY ATTENDANCE AT THE POOL DURING THE PEAK SEASON REACHES APPROXIMATELY 350 PERSONS, WITH PEAK USAGE DAYS DRAWING OVER 500. APPROXIMATELY 90 FAMILIES PURCHASED ANNUAL PASSES, IN ADDITION TO OVER 100 INDIVIDUALS. THE YPSILANTI OTTERS, A NON-PROFIT, COMMUNITY-BASED SWIM ORGANIZATION, HOSTS ITS SUMMER PRACTICES AND SWIM MEETS FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH AT RUTHERFORD POOL AS WELL. THE POOL WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE YPSILANTI COMMUNITY SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE FREE POOL PASSES AND LESSONS TO OVER 70 STUDENTS DURING 2018. OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM CONSISTED OF JUNIOR LIFEGUARD TRAINING, AND A WATER SAFETY CAMP, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PARKRIDGE COMMUNITY CENTER SUMMER PROGRAM. WE TEAMED UP WITH THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB AND THE YPSILANTI DISTRICT LIBRARY, BOTH OF WHICH ENCOURAGED YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HEALTHY RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AT THE POOL. ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS AND RELATIONSHIPS ARE AN INTEGRAL PART OF OUR COMMUNITY'S STRENGTH. BECAUSE SO MANY IN OUR COMMUNITY RELY ON THE POOL, WE ARE COMMITTED TO EXPANDING PROGRAMMING AND ACCESSIBILITY TO ALL PATRONS FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
