Mission

916 Ink is Sacramento’s arts-based creative writing and literacy nonprofit that provides workshops and tutoring to transform Sacramento youth into strong readers, confident communicators, and published authors. Our programs increase literacy skills, improve vocabulary, teach empathy, positively impact social and emotional learning, and expand communication skills. We envision a Sacramento region where every child and teen is given access to a culturally relevant creative writing program that leads them to believe in themselves and to understand the power of the written word.

About

916 Ink served 593 youth through 30 creative writing workshop series' held at Community Partner and School Sites. 916 Ink programs are proven to positively impact self-esteem, writing confidence, personal achievement, and overall academic engagement. Our pre/post evaluation results show that after successful completion of a workshop: 87 percent of students improved attitudes toward writing, with 70 percent looking forward to writing down their ideas and 60 percent believing the stories that they can tell matter to others. Additionally, 84 percent improve in terms of social and emotional development, with 78 percent believing they are good at using their imagination and 77 percent enjoying meeting people who are different than them.
