During 2017, Communities Moving Forward maintained an average of 50 beds per month to serve the low income housing needs of San Diego County. Communities Moving Forward has been working with agencies like Pathways Community Services to provide housing for their dual diagnosis patients on a consistent basis. Communities Moving Forward continues to serve low income housing needs as well as dual diagnosis patients, as well as support the matriculation of recently released prison inmates and has supported our residents in securing jobs and stabilizing their lives. In 2017 CMF identified a need for female housing from the aforementioned population and opened one of the facilities to house both men and women. The transition has gone well and Communities Moving Forward is not meeting the housing needs of both men and women.Community Vaccinations (Hepatitis A Epidemic). Communities Moving Forward responded to a county-wide outbreak of Hepatitis A and influenza cases in November of 2017 by providing free vaccinations in conjunction with the County Health Department to the community. The vaccinations were hosted at our facilities and the vaccinations were offered at no charge to the entire community. Communities Moving Forward in conjunction with the County Health Department also provided free transportation to those members of the community that did not have their own means of transportation.Communities Moving Forward expanded our health and nutrition program that was piloted in 2016 to train individuals in health coaching and nutrition advising. The program was put together under the direction of licensed nutritionists and members of the panel for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The workshops consist of basic training at the community level and at the higher levels train nutritionists and lay practitioners to work with scientific data to provide nutrition counseling. Communities Moving Forward also hosted quarterly community meals to teach the community about nutritious meals and nutrition based meal prep. This was in response to growing demand for education on health and nutrition in meal planning.
