IN 2019, PORTAL SENT 35 NEW CARGO BICYCLES TO INDIVIDUAL ENTREPRENEURS IN NEPAL TO GROW THEIR OWN SMALL BUSINESSES. THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE NOW ABLE TO INCREASE THEIR CARRYING CAPACITY AND REACH MORE CUSTOMERS WHILE DECREASING WORK LOAD AND TIME TO DESTINATION. THE BICYCLES ARE ALSO USED AS A VEHICLE TO CARRY OTHERS SAFELY TO SCHOOL, WORK AND OTHER NECESSARY ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. WE TRANSITIONED TO 100% NEPALI STAFF WORKING IN NEPAL. WE CONTINUE TO PROVIDE SUSTAINABLE WAGES, JOB AND SAFETY TRAINING, EQUIPMENT AND PROTECTION, DAILY LUNCH, PAID HOLIDAYS, PAID LEAVE, HEALTH BENEFITS, RETIREMENT SAVINGS AND PATERNITY/MATERNITY BENEFITS TO ALL OF OUR STAFF IN NEPAL. WE ARE PROUD OF OUR STAFF FOR BRINGING A TRULY ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT IN PILOTING A NEW BUSINESS VENTURE AT OUR WORKSHOP THIS YEAR. WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO OFFER SUPPORT AND COACHING AS OUR TEAM BEGAN A NEW VENTURE TO DESIGN AND CRAFT FURNITURE, SOLD LOCALLY. WE WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF THIS INDIGENOUS BUSINESS. WE ALSO PARTNERED WITH A LOCAL ORGANIZATION TO PRODUCE 8 EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT COMMUNITY CENTERS IN RURAL AREAS THIS YEAR. AS EARTHQUAKE RECONSTRUCTION IN NEPAL IS WINDING DOWN, WE ARE THANKFUL FOR THE TIME AND RESOURCES WE HAD AVAILABLE TO HELP GET FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES UP OFF THE GROUND. WE WILL CONTINUE TO BE AVAILABLE IN THIS CAPACITY IF AND WHEN THE NEED ARISES IN THE FUTURE. IN NOVEMBER, WE WELCOMED A NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO PORTAL AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING ALONGSIDE MORE INDIVIDUALS AND SMALL BUSINESSES AS THEY CREATE THEIR OWN PATHWAYS OUT OF POVERTY IN 2020
