Mission

The Roundhouse is a non-profit makerspace that supports the teaching, learning, and practicing of a wide variety of crafts, skills, technologies, and arts in the Truckee-Tahoe community.

About

2018 was the second full year of operations for the Roundhouse and it's 3,600 sq feet of space. During this year, we maintained our membership of 200. We had over 3600 visits; 567 visits through our school and community programs. We continued to offer 30 informal non-credit classes each month to teach new skills and the use of shop tools. We partnered with school and community groups and local non-profits to offer extended training and exposure to programs in each of the 5 shops: wood, metal, textiles, ceramics and technology. To increase the communities we serve, we partnered with the school district to offer an Adult Education Welding program in Spanish and the nonprofit CHOICES which serves developmentally disabled adults. We also partnered with the Town of Truckee to offer Free Fix It events to Fix items and keep them out of local landfills while empowering community members to learn new skills. The Maker Show which provides an opportunity for community members, including but not restricted to Roundhouse members, to showcase their efforts and talents by sharing their creations was held again in June. Over 40 volunteers help to keep the space running.
