Mission
The mission of Horizon Academy is to empower students diagnosed with specific learning disabilities to be effective learners and confident self-advocates. Our vision is to become the Midwest's premier school and education center for students with learning disabilities and a leading resource for the community.
About
Horizon Academy serves approximately 80 students in 10 counties within a 75 mile radius. We provide scholarships to 45% of our students through financial assistance raised through our development efforts. Horizon Academy holds accreditation through ISACS & Advanced, and is an approved private agency through Missouri DESE and by the NCAA. Our Orton-Gillingham instructional program is recognized by AOGPE as a school following Orton-Gillingham principles approved in providing appropriate educational services to students with dyslexia and other language learning disabilities. All teachers are trained in this approach. Through our tutoring center and our free early reading screenings, we are able to better serve the needs of our community. We act as a resource to the community by (continued on schedule O) offering free events that promote awareness of learning disabilities and providing free early reading screenings. Over 400 students have transitioned from our school and gone on to be on the honor roll, graduate college, and enter careers.
