About

Youth Development: YWCA Central Carolinas Youth Programs provide year-round afterschool and full day summer programming at no cost to the families of 285 high-poverty youth in Kindergarten through 5th grade. We serve youth throughout Mecklenburg and Union Counties in public housing communities, County Park and Recreation facilities, public schools and the YWCA building. The purpose of the program is improving academics with a focus on literacy, keeping children safe in at-risk environments, and providing holistic support to meet the needs of the families and encourage parent engagement. During 2018-19 Spring testing, the Mecklenburg County and Union county centers doubled the number of children reading at grade level when compared to Fall testing results.
