Developing Leaders to Take Action:(1) Youth Council:The Youth Council is made up of youth who are committed to being involved at all levels of the organization and are all graduates of other El Pueblo youth programs. During 2019 young people served on the Youth Council, creating content for and facilitating the Pueblo Power Program as well as leading El Pueblos efforts to achieve tuition equity for undocumented students. (2) Pueblo Power: The Pueblo Power Program is a leadership and youth organizing program focused on learning about diverse social justice issues and how to organize for change. During the 2019, young people learned about immigrant rights, dismantling racism, and how to organize effective grassroots campaigns with other young people. In March 2019 they also traveled to Washington DC to attend the UnidosUS Leaders in Action Summit to learn about federal issues and lobby for solutions. (3) Community Leadership Council (CLC):This group of adult leaders meets regularly to continue their engagement and growth, ensure that our work with adult leaders is effective, and inform our decision making on campaigns, governance, and operations. 19 adult leaders who had previously been a part of our programs made up the 2018-2019 CLC. They designed and staffed booths at La Fiesta del Pueblo to promote our programs and actions. They facilitated the Justicia Reproductiva curriculum for the programs newest participants and continued honing leadership skills as a group while engaging in broader advocacy efforts. (4) PARE:PARE empowerment groups engage adult Latinas who have been touched by domestic violence and sexual assault. In 2019, 37 women continued their healing process, developed self-esteem and self-sufficiency, and promoted violence-free families and communities through the program. (5) Justicia Reproductiva Program:Justicia Reproductiva supported twelve participants to learn about basic anatomy, birth control, HIV/STI prevention, as well as gender identity and sexual orientation, and abortion. They focus on laws and regulations that impact them and their communities and what we can do collectively to advocate for reproductive justice.
