THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR THE PROFESSIONAL ADVANCEMENT OF BLACK CHEMISTS AND CHEMICAL ENGINEERS (NOBCCHE) IS DEDICATED TO BUILDING AN EMINENT CADRE OF PEOPLE OF COLOR IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY. IN PURSUIT OF THIS MISSION NOBCCHE INITIATES AND SUPPORTS LOCAL, REGIONAL, NATIONAL, AND GLOBAL PROGRAMS THAT ASSIST PEOPLE OF COLOR IN FULLY REALIZING THEIR POTENTIAL IN ACADEMIC, PROFESSIONAL, AND ENTREPRENEURIAL PURSUITS IN CHEMISTRY, CHEMICAL ENGINEERING, AND RELATED FIELDS. EXAMPLES OF NOBCCHE'S COMMUNITY SERVICE INCLUDES PROVIDING AN AVENUE FOR PRE COLLEGE STUDENTS OF COLOR TO PREPARE AND COMPETE DURING OUR NATIONAL SCIENCE BOWL AND SCIENCE FAIR, SCIENCE DEMONSTRATIONS TO BUILD AN INTEREST IN SCIENCE TO PRIME THE PIPELINE. NOBCCHE ALSO PROVIDES GRANTS TO SUPPORT NON-MEMBERS FREE CONFERENCE ADMISSION AND CAREER MENTORING, GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING.2015-2016 WAS GREAT YEAR FOR NOBCCHE. THE MAJORITY OF OUR PROGRAMS TOOK PLACE AT OUR 42ND NATIONAL CONVENTION IN ORLANDO, FL SEPTEMBER 22-26. THE THEME WAS "BUILDING GENERATIONS THROUGH STEM: INSPIRE. CONNECT. CREATE." WE HAD OVER 700 CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS AND INTRODUCED 4 NEW PROGRAMS WITH A MORE INTEGRATED STEM WEEKEND.OVER 200 STUDENTS WERE SUPPORTED FINANCIALLY WITH A GOOD MIX OF UNDERGRADUATE, GRADUATE, AND POST-DOCTORAL ATTENDEES. THE NEW PROGRAMS INCLUDED 1)ELEVATOR SESSIONS @ NOBCCHE 2) 2 MINUTE DRILL RESEARCH PITCH 3) CHAT & CHEW RECEPTION: AN EVENING OF PROFESSIONAL TALKS, AND 4) NBC CAFE SERIES. OVER 200 STEM WEEKEND PARTICIPANTS COMPETED IN OUR NOBCCHE SCIENCE BOWL AND SCIENCE FAIR (21 TEAMS TOTAL). SEVERAL INTERNAL/EXTERNAL PROFESSIONAL AND STUDENT AWARDS WERE GRANTED COVERING EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE, WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP, OUTSTANDING EDUCATION, YOUNG SCIENTIST, EXCELLENCE IN MENTORING AND INNOVATION, AND LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT. THE OVERALL CONFERENCE FEEDBACK FROM OUR POST-CONFERENCE SURVEY WAS "WELL DONE!"
