The Junior League of Fort Myers (JLFM) differentiates itself from other volunteer organizations through its focus on the development of the potential of women. JLFM believes that women are change agents in the community, and perceives women as catalysts for lasting change in not only Southwest Florida but in the entire country. The education and training that JLFM provides to its members is not only to provide effective volunteer service to community, but also to identify the most pressing community needs and to initiate or expand services to meet those needs. The community projects during the year included: Kids in the Kitchen which strives to empower youth to make health lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its health issues; Wish which is a hands-on advocacy and life skills program making a difference in the lives of young women in the care of the Department of Juvenile Justice; and Helping Hands.
