Mission

Located in downtown Sonoma, the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art (SVMA) was founded in 1998 to provide a gathering space for artists, collectors, community members and art enthusiasts of all ages. The 8,000 square foot facility hosts 4-5 exhibitions annually, focusing on modern and contemporary art and artists with strong connections to the community. SVMA also has a 2,500-volume art, architecture and design research library. Annually, more than 13,000 visitors attend the museum. The program reaches an additional 700 local school children each year through A.R.T.S. (Art Rewards the Student), and Young Artists & Writers Workshop (YAW). Both A.R.T.S. and YAW's curriculum is designed around current SVMA exhibitions. The SVMA belongs to you - the people in our community.

About

The Sonoma Valley Museum of Art exhibited a diverse program of works of art by both American & International artists in the Museum and in public spaces. It conducted a robust series of artist talks, workshops, films and interdisciplinary educational events for both adults and youth. In addition, it presented the ARTS education program for all 4th and 5th grade students in the school district (approximately 850 children). The education programs utilized staff and consultants to develop, implement, and evaluate the programs. It also started a public art program in 2017 which continued throughout 2018. The Museum installed 10 large scale public art pieces in Sonoma Plaza. Approximately 13,000 people visited the Museum during 2018.
