THE LOUISIANA FOUNDATION FOR AGRICULTURE IN THE CLASSROOM'S PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION TO GRADE SCHOOL STUDENTS IN VARIOUS SCHOOLS WITHIN THE STATE OF LOUISIANA.
About
EACH YEAR, LOUISIANA FOUNDATION FOR AITC HOSTS A SERIES OF TEACHER WORKSHOPS ACROSS THE STATE TO PROVIDE EDUCATORS WITH MATERIAL NEEDED TO INTEGRATE AGRICULTURE INTO THEIR EXISTING CURRICULUM. LESSON PLANS CORRELATED TO THE LOUISIANA STUDENT STANDARDS, HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES, NEW RESOURCES AND IDEAS ARE ALL PROVIDED AT THE COMPREHENSIVE SEMINARS. A TOTAL OF 16 WORKSHOPS WERE HELD IN 2018.THREE ELECTRONIC ISSUES OF OUR SOW, GROW AND KNOW EDUCATOR NEWSLETTER WERE DEVELOPED AND DISTRIBUTED TO 1,100 CLASSROOM TEACHERS.WE CONTINUE WITH OUR OUTSTANDING TEACHER AWARD. THE WINNING TEACHER RECEIVES AN EXPENSE PAID TRIP TO THE NATIONAL AITC CONFERENCE, A $500 AWARD AND AN IPAD.THE TENTH ANNUAL AG LITERACY PROJECT WAS HELD IN 2018. THERE WERE 152 VOLUNTEER READERS IN 500 CLASSROOMS ACROSS THE STATE. OVER 12,000 STUDENTS WERE REACHED WITH THIS PROJECT.OUR AITC PROGRAM ALSO DOES VOLUNTEER TRAINING THROUGH LOUISIANA FARM BUREAU. AN AITC WORKSHOP IS CONDUCTED AT THE ANNUAL FARM BUREAU CONVENTION IN JUNE AS WELL AS VARIOUS PRESENTATIONS MADE TO THE FARM BUREAU WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE AND THE YOUNG FARMERS AND RANCHERS MEETINGS STATEWIDE.237 EDUCATORS WERE TRAINED AT AITC WORKSHOPS THIS YEAR; THESE TEACHERS HAVE A DIRECT IMPACT ON OVER 20,000 STUDENTS.47% OF TEACHERS TRAINED WERE NEW COMERS TO THE PROGRAM; 22% WERE PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS.98% OF TEACHER ATTENDING A WORKSHOP IN 2018 RANKED THE WORKSHOP AS EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL AND SAID THEY WOULD USE AT LEAST ONE LESSON FROM THE WORKSHOP IN THEIR CLASSES.
