Non-profit food pantry program - The food bank serves as the hub which supplies food to a coalition of 90 non-profit agencies and food pantries throughout San Luis Obispo County and in 2018, distributed over 2.1 million pound of produce to residents of SLO County through our partner nonprofit food pantry program using a fleet of refrigerated trucks, food bank staff collect local produce, excess grocery items and food drive donations which are evaluated for food safety, sorted and stored in our central facility, and which then form the basis of supply for non-profit food pantries that span the county. This program creates an efficient system that both reduces local food waste and expands availability of food resources to the over 46,000 residents in our county that face hunger on a daily basis.
