THE MISSION OF OF THE ORGANIZATION IS TO ASSIST IN THE EMPOWERMENT OF SURVIVORS THROUGH: COUNSELING, A 24-HOUR CRISIS NETWORK, MEDICAL, LEGAL AND SYSTEM ADVOCACY. THE ORGANIZATION IS ALSO COMMITTED TO CHANGING ATTITUDES THAT FOSTER AND PERPETUATE VIOLENCE. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES SERICES TO: DEAF SURVIVORS, DEAF-BLIND SURVIVORS, AND HARD-OF-HEARING SURVIVORS.

JANUARY 2018: THE SLCAD THERAPIST HOSTED ITS SECOND YEAR OF PROVIDING THE DEAF TEEN SUPPORT GROUP AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THE SALT LAKE CITY LOCATION WHERE 6 DEAF STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES OF TRAUMA. THE DEAF SCHOOL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT SLCAD'S DEAF TEEN SUPPORT GROUP. FEBRUARY 2018: SLCAD HOSTED ITS 9TH ANNUAL SWEETHEART CHALLENGE IN ST. GEORGE WHICH CONTINUED TO BE A SUCCESS BRINGING THE DEAF COMMUNITY TOGETHER. THERE WAS AN ACTIVITY ADDRESSING TRUST AND ONE TEENAGER TOLD HIS MOM THAT HE FINALLY UNDERSTOOD WHY HE WASN'T TRUSTING HIS ABUSER. SLCAD CONTINUES TO PARTNER WITH ITS MOU PARTNER, THE SOUTHERN UTAH DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING PROGRAM, WHO PROVIDED SLCAD SPACE FOR THE SWEETHEART CHALLENGE ACTIVITY/WORKSHOP. MARCH 2018: THE SLCAD THERAPIST PROVIDED THE DEAF TEEN SUPPORT GROUP AT THE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE NORTHERN OGDEN AREA. THERE WERE 8 DEAF STUDENTS IN ATTENDANCE WHO WERE MOSTLY MALES. THIS GROUP ENABLED THE DEAF MALE STUDENTS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR TRAUMA AND LEARN TOOLS TO COPE FROM TRAUMA. JUNE 2018: SLCAD HAD A BOOTH AT THE PRIDE FESTIVAL WHICH BROUGHT 200 DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING AND HEARING INDIVIDUALS TO THE SLCAD BOOTH. SLCAD WILL MAKE THIS AN ANNUAL TRADITION. AUGUST 2018: SLCAD HOSTED ITS ANNUAL BOARD/STAFF RETREAT IN PARK CITY, UTAH. DURING THE RETREAT, SEPTEMBER 2018: SLCAD SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED ITS FACEBOOK LIVE SERIES WHERE STAFF POSTED LIVE VIDEOS ON TOPICS RELEVANT TO THE MONTH: OCTOBER DV AWARENESS, ETC.. OCTOBER 2018: SLCAD HOSTED ITS 5TH ANNUAL PURPLE TIE GALA FUNDRAISER AND RAISED 18,000. NOVEMBER 2018: SLCAD STAFF ATTENDED THE DEAF ANTI VIOLENCE COALITION CONFERENCE IN VERMONT. DECEMBER 2018: AT THE BOARD AND STAFF APPRECIATION DINNER, THE FIRST PURPLE RIBBON AWARD WAS GIVEN TO SORENSON COMMUNICATIONS FOR THEIR YEARS OF SUPPORT TO SEGO LILY CENTER FOR THE ABUSED DEAF.
