About

THE GUARDIANSHIP, ADVOCACY & PLANNING SERVICES (GAPS) PROGRAM ENSURES A HIGH QUALITY OF LIFE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES THROUGH GUARDIANSHIP, ADVOCACY, AND HEALTH CARE REPRESENTATION SERVICES. AS A GUARDIAN, GAPS ADVOCATES AND MAKES DECISIONS CONCERNING EACH INDIVIDUAL'S HEALTH, EMPLOYMENT, RESIDENTIAL, COMMUNITY, AND QUALITY OF LIFE NEEDS. ADDITIONALLY, WE ADVOCATE FOR THE RIGHTS OF ALL PEOPLE TO HAVE A VOICE IN PLANNING THEIR OWN LIVES. WE DO THIS BY EDUCATING AND COACHING PROFESSIONALS AND FAMILY MEMBERS WHO PROVIDE SUPPORT TO PEOPLE AT HOME, AT WORK, AND IN THE COMMUNITY. WE TEACH PRACTICAL SKILLS TO HELP SUPPORT PEOPLE WITH THE DIGNITY AND RESPECT THEY DESERVE SO THEY CAN LIVE FULL LIVES AND REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AS VALUED MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY. CURRICULUM FOR ALL OF OUR COURSES IS DEVELOPED USING THE EVIDENCED-BASED PRINCIPLES OF PERSON CENTERED PRACTICES AND POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORTS, TO ENSURE THAT THOSE WHO SUPPORT PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES DO SO IN A MANNER THAT PUTS THE PERSON BEING SUPPORTED AT THE CENTER OF ALL DECISION MAKING. WE HELD PUBLIC TRAINING EVENTS ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS RELATED TO PERSON CENTERED PRACTICES, POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORTS, AND AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER. THESE TRAINING EVENTS ALSO INCLUDED TRAINING PROVIDED UNDER TWO CONTRACTS WITH THE OREGON OFFICE OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY SERVICES FOR BEHAVIOR CONSULTANT TRAINING AND THE OREGON INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT PLAN. IN ADDITION TO PUBLIC TRAINING EVENTS, OUR SPECIALISTS PROVIDED PRIVATE TEAM TRAINING TO EMPLOYEES OF ORGANIZATIONS THAT SERVE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES, CONDUCTED PRIVATE CONSULTATIONS WITH FAMILIES SUPPORTING SOMEONE WITH A DISABILITY AT HOME, AND PROVIDED ONE-TO-ONE MENTORSHIP FOR BEHAVIOR CONSULTANTS.
