Mission

THE ORGANIZATION IS DEDICATED TO REDUCING PET OVERPOPULATION, ELIMINATING EUTHANASIA AS A MEANS OF CONTROLLING PET OVERPOPULATION, AND PREVENTING ANIMAL SUFFERING IN UTAH.

About

IN 2018, UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER'S PARTNERSHIP WITH 20 UTAH MUNICIPAL SHELTERS AFFECTED THE RESCUE OF 746 ABANDONED UTAH COMPANION ANIMALS FROM AS FAR NORTH AS BOX ELDER COUNTY AND AS FAR SOUTH AS HURRICANE, UTAH. IN THAT SAME YEAR, 428 SPAY AND NEUTER PROCEDURES WERE PERFORMED (AN INCREASE OF 15% OVER 2017) AND OVER 700 PETS WERE ADOPTED INTO THEIR FOREVER HOME. OUR VOLUNTEERS WORK TIRELESSLY EACH MONTH IN A RANGE OF ROLES INCLUDING ANIMAL CARE, OFFICE WORK, AND FUNDRAISING EVENTS. UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER IS LOCATED IN A LOWER INCOME COMMUNITY ON THE BORDER OF SALT LAKE AND DAVIS COUNTY, BUT WE SERVE ADOPTEES AND RESCUE FROM MUNICIPALITIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF UTAH. WE HAVE CONTINUED TO EXPAND OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND ADOPTION EVENTS THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH PETCO, PETSMART, HARMON'S GROCERY STORES, CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN, LARRY H. MILLER, AND THE UTAH GRIZZLIES. UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER CONTINUES TO OFFER SPECIAL ADOPTION PROGRAMS BASED ON INCOME RESTRICTIONS AND MILITARY SERVICE. OUR SENIOR FOR A SENIOR PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED WITH A GOAL TO PARTNER SENIOR CITIZENS WITH OUR SENIOR CATS, AGES 10 YEARS AND UP, AT NO COST TO THE SENIOR ADOPTERS. WHEN A SENIOR CITIZEN ADOPTS A SENIOR ANIMAL, ANY MEDICAL PROCEDURE PERFORMED IN HOUSE BEFORE ADOPTION; VACCINATIONS; MICRO CHIPPING AND THE ADOPTION FEE ARE WAIVED. WE ALSO PROVIDE EACH ADOPTER WITH A WELCOME HOME PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES A LITTER BOX, LITTER BOX SCOOP, A BAG OF CAT FOOD, FOOD AND WATER DISHES, AND A CAT BED. ANY COMMUNITY MEMBER WHO IS A SENIOR CITIZEN IS ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS PROGRAM. UTAH ANIMAL ADOPTION CENTER IS ALSO ONE OF FOUR PETS FOR PATRIOTS PARTNERS WITHIN THE STATE OF UTAH. THIS ORGANIZATION IS A NON-PROFIT ENCOURAGING VETERANS AND SERVICE MEMBERS TO ADOPT RESCUED DOGS AND CATS AT DISCOUNTED RATES. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, PETS FOR PATRIOTS ALSO PROVIDES DISCOUNTED RESOURCES, INCLUDING VETERINARY CARE FOR THE LIFE OF THE PET AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO HELP KEEP THE PET WITH THE SERVICE MEMBER OR VETERAN. MORE IMPORTANTLY, 2018 SAW THE EXPANSION OF OUR RESCUE AND ADOPTION PROGRAMS THROUGH THE CREATION OF TWO COMMUNITY-BASED VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS: FOSTER BRIDGE PROGRAM AND GIFTED MUSIC SCHOOL PILOT PROGRAM. BOTH OF THESE NEW AND INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS WORK TO CONNECT MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY WITH THE ANIMALS THAT NEED THEM THE MOST. OUR FOSTER BRIDGE PROGRAM WAS SPECIFICALLY CREATED TO REDUCE UAAC'S IN-HOUSE INTAKE NUMBERS AND THE STRESS ANIMALS EXPERIENCE UPON BEING SURRENDERED BY THEIR OWNER. THIS PROGRAM INVOLVES THE CURRENT PET OWNER, WHO IS LOOKING TO SURRENDER THEIR PET, TO BECOME A FOSTER PARENT FOR THEIR ANIMAL. THE PET WILL STAY IN THEIR CURRENT HOME, BUT WILL RECEIVE ALL MEDICAL CARE AND SUPPLIES NECESSARY FROM US TO SUPPLEMENT THE FOSTER FAMILY. OUR GOAL IS TO INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF A SUSTAINING ADOPTION DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE INTERESTED ADOPTER WILL BE ABLE TO VISIT THEIR PROSPECTIVE NEW BEST FRIEND IN A COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT, THEREBY SHOWING OFF ITS BEST BEHAVIOR. OUR SECOND NEW PROGRAM, GIFTED MUSIC SCHOOL PILOT PROGRAM, INVOLVES A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE STUDENTS OF THE GIFTED MUSIC SCHOOL OF SALT LAKE CITY WHO VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME TO COME TO THE SHELTER AND PLAY A RANGE OF CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR OUR ANIMALS. THESE STUDENTS, AGED 11 TO 17, PERFORM NOT ONLY FOR OUR ANIMALS BUT ALSO FOR OUR STAFF, VISITORS, AND VOLUNTEERS, CREATING A CALMING AND RELAXING ENVIRONMENT WITHIN OUR ADOPTION FACILITY. WATCHING THE ANIMALS' REACTION TO THE CHILDREN AND THE MUSIC THEY PLAYED WAS BREATHTAKING AND BEAUTIFUL
