About

We advocated for the preservation of multiple buildings that were of historical importance to Chicago through education, outreach and strategic partnerships. 2018 was an outstanding year for historic preservation in Chicago, and Preservation Chicago played a decisive role on many efforts. Our advocacy efforts directly contributed to saving Chicago's Union Station from an inappropriate rooftop addition. Additionally, Preservation Chicago played a major role in the effort to save the Superior Street rowhouses from demolition and which resulted in a new 15-building preliminary Chicago landmark district. Incredibly important preservation wins in 2018 include the Uptown Theatre, Cook County Hospital and the Old Main Post Office which were the results of decades of preservation advocacy. Preservation Chicago contributed to positive preservation outcomes with the Church of the Epiphany, Chicago Tribune Building and historic signage, Pilsen preliminary landmark district designation, the downzoning of East Andersonville, Atlantic Bank/National Bank of Greece building, Commercial National Bank/Com Ed building, 29 S. Lasalle St., West Side Duncan YMCA/YWCA, Congress Theater, Lathrop Homes, The Shrine, Nuveen House, St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Parish House, Eagles Building, Hollander Warehouse, Ukrainian Dairy Building, Clarendon Park Field House, Jefferson Park Firehouse, increased fines for 'demolition by neglect, and many, many others.
