Mission

Our mission is to share the hope that is found in Jesus Christ by providing excellent, whole-person healthcare to a medically underserved community in the greater Birmingham, Alabama area.

About

During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2019, we had 4,172 patient encounters at our clinic in Fairfield, Alabama. That represents a reduction in total patients of 121 (3%) from FY 2017-18, primarily due to reductions in dental and counseling services. More than 3,200 of the patient encounters (up 5% from FY 2017-18) were for primary health care, which is provided by our two board-certified medical doctors. Dental patient encounters of about 370 were down about 34% vs. FY 2017-18 due to a reduction in services from two days per week to three to four days per month that occurred beginning in the last half of FY 2017-18. We continued to offer free counseling services and group activities led by our licensed counselor two days week. However, counseling patient encounters of about 290 were down 34% versus FY 2017-18 due primarily to a three-month suspension of services resulting from our counselor's medical leave. Finally, we continued to offer affordable eye care services about two afternoons a month using a third-party provider whose mission is complementary with our mission. We had about 290 vision patient encounters (up 22% vs. FY 2017-18). Across the services we offer, about 87% of the patients were poor, elderly, disabled, and/or uninsured. Other significant activities in the community included distribution of about 125 Thanksgiving baskets, our sixth annual Christmas shop, and free health screenings for students (pre-K and high school) from local schools. Finally, one of our medical doctors led a medical mission team that saw over 1,000 patients in Gonaives, Haiti. Volunteers assist in both clinical and administrative functions.
