About

Research - Chairman of the Board, Mr. Gerry McDougall, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Global Oncology Partner, launched a global analysis of the overall state of medulloblastoma. We engaged Mr. Walter Capone, an accomplished, global Biotech and Pharma leader with a 20+ year track record of accelerating breakthrough science, drug development, and commercialization to direct the project.Mr. Capone, former CEO, President of Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, delivered a high-potential, high-impact strategic plan to achieve a cure for medulloblastoma and serves as one of CLFs Scientific Board Directors and is the driving force behind #cureMEdullo. In 2018, Capone directed our first collaborative repurposing the #cureMEdullo project to achieve US-FDA approval and create broad access to a novel treatment for the relapse of three of the most lethal cancers in children: neuroblastoma (NB), medulloblastoma (MB), and embryonal tumor with multilayer rosettes (ETMR). Children diagnosed with these three cancers have an average survival rate of50% over three years, account for over 25% of pediatric deaths from cancer, and have no cures at present.Under Mr. Capones direction, the project was submitted to the second largest cancer funding source whose grant reviewers returned an assessment that conveyed favorable feedback regarding the potential of the proposal including attainment of orphan drug designation as well as favorable FDA interactions, positive survival data and preliminary results versus historical data, as well as safety profile and final drug formulation status. Reviewers also returned a series of questions which would require a resubmission in the next round of applications. This process is standard practice.Subsequent to the request of questions, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) childhood clinical trials group that unites 9,000 experts at more than 200 leading childrens hospitals, universities, and cancer centers around the world, made the decision to launch a clinical trial of this novel treatment for the relapse of three of the most lethal cancers in children. The decision by this prestigious organization to move ahead with this project affirmed our assessment that the treatment holds great promise, and even better, the initiative does not require any further CLFs backing or matching funds and is expected to achieve many of our #cureMEdullo objectives. This was great progress in our first #cureMEdullo project! Our second #cureMEdullo project launched in 2018 was in collaboration with American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). We fully funded a Young Investigator Award (ASCO-YIA) specifically for medulloblatoma, closely follow his investigation, and will eagerly report outcomes of his Cerebrospinal fluid derived circulating tumor DNA as an actionable biomarker in medulloblastoma. Each of our high-level #cureMEdullo research projects requires careful identification and thorough vetting. Also during 2018, we continued our partnership with the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) by providing additional funds to CPRIT's grant recipients.
