Mission

Our mission is to study the foundation of global ocean health and use our discoveries to improve the future for all life on the planet. Our vision is a world where scientific understanding of the ocean turns the tide on global challenges and unlocks the full potential of the ocean to support our society. To achieve this, we conduct fundamental research on our oceans, use what we learn to address global issues and opportunities through applied research, and engage students of all ages with experiential programs that train tomorrow’s ocean leaders. While our research spans the globe, we use the Gulf of Maine as a cost effective natural laboratory when possible, where we can study change while providing important data to the state of Maine and those who make their living from its waters.
