More about this organization

Mission

DPDO provides humanitarian relief and development assistance to victims of the conflict in Darfur-Sudan. The organization administers programs in education, literacy, health training and income generation for women, solar cooker training and community peace building.

About

Darfur womens centers-women and children comprise approximately 80 of the displaced population encamped throughout Darfur and eastern Chad. The womens center program serves women and girls in two IDP camps north of Darfur. The womens center offer these women income-generation projects in the form of production of traditional handcrafts, training in literacy, first aid, solar cooking, health education, and a safe environment where women can gather and share their stories. DPDO also provides the women with items for personal use like soap, flashlights, photo ID badges and blankets for their households. The womens centers have been established to equip Darfuri women on an individual and collective basis with the resources to mitigate the consequences of displacement and to serve approximately 300 Darfuri women. Expenses for the womens center program go toward salaries of the center's staff and purchase of educational materials.
