About this organization
Mission
The Boston Early Music Festival was founded in 1980 by leading practitioners to promote the entire field of "early music." Biennial international Festivals and Exhibitions (taking place in odd years in June--2009, 2011, 2013, etc.) gather the world's leading musicologists, performing artists, instrument makers and teachers with students and public audiences in a week-long showcase of the field. Annual activities include the BEMF Concerts Series, the Educational Outreach program, the International Baroque Opera Project, and Family Day. BEMF is universally recognized as the world's leading early music festival, and we are extending our activities to other venues in the U.S. and abroad.
