Mission

The Yiddish Book Center works to tell the whole Jewish story by rescuing, translating, and disseminating Yiddish books and presenting innovative educational programs that broaden understanding of modern Jewish identity. The organization works to advance knowledge of the content and literary and cultural progeny of the books we've saved. Beyond having saved more than one million Yiddish books since its founding in 1980, the Yiddish Book Center advances knowledge of the content and literary and cultural progeny of the books its saved through educational programs, translation initiatives, and the Wexler Oral History Project among others.

About

Visitor and public programs - welcomed approximately 10,000 visitors and offered permanent and traveling exhibitions and interpretive tours. The center presented approximately 30 public programs including films, lectures, concerts, readings and a summer music event, Yidstock: the festival of new Yiddish music. The center has created special tours for students and other special interest groups.
