About
Open Doors Academy (ODA) is a developmental out-of-school enrichment program that is designed to provide a safe, nurturing environment promoting academic, emotional, and social enrichment for middle-school and high school students. ODA works to nurture, protect, inspire and challenge adolescents to reach their full potential. We realize this mission by ensuring our scholars receive full support and resources to navigate middle school, high school, post-secondary, and beyond. A few points of our success include: our students succeed. Every student who has completed at minimum 3 years in the Open Doors Academy program has graduated from high school, and 95% of our graduates pursue post-secondary education and programming. During the 2017-18 school year, 94% of the graduated high school scholars have enrolled in a post-secondary-option. Utilizing data, ranging from 2009 through 2018, out of 189 scholars who have graduated high school upon completion of the ODA middle school program, 95% have enrolled in a post-secondary education option and 88% have completed their post-secondary option. We currently have 57 alumni who graduated from their post-secondary education and are currently gainfully employed. Of those who completed their post-secondary education, the average starting salary was $50,760. Our students demonstrate a commitment to their own success. Of the students enrolled in Open Doors Academy, 74% of students returned for their second year of programming and 63% returned for their third year in the program. Our families are committed. At the campuses where parents were most highly involved in meeting service engagement requirements, we saw the highest student performance levels, illustrating a direct correlation between family support and academic success. ODA served 1,888 family members last year. In addition, 82% of middle school parents participated in at least 16 hours of programming. Our programming is holistic and addresses social and emotional development. We continue to strengthen the infrastructure of the program model, refining our standardization manual that clearly defines a level of expectations and accountability across all of our individual campuses. We also continue to build upon our performance-based outcomes that clearly align our metrics to our short-term and long-term goals, and created infrastructure for accurately tracking and analyzing data. Continued growth: In FY 2016-2017 we remodeled our family program to utilize a case management style. ODA family advocates work directly with our families to connect them to resources within the community. ODA served a record high of 462 students across 14 campuses. In FY 2017-2018 ODA added a new high school campus and restructured our high school model to focus more heavily on college and career readiness to encourage a pathway to independence in adulthood. In March 2018, the Ohio Department of Education has selected Open Doors Academy to provide training and mentoring to other recipients of the 21st Century Community Learning Center program (21st CCLC). ODA, through its internal department known as the Center for Out of School Advancement (COSA), provides professional development, coaching, and program evaluation services to over 220 agencies across Ohio that receive support from the 21st CCLC program to serve students from kindergarten through high school.
