About this organization
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto; line-height:normal">Junior Achievement’s (JA) purpose is to empower young people to achieve economic success. The central theme found across all 20 of JA’s research-based programs is that excellence in school leads to success in the real world. JA’s K-12 curriculum is organized into grade-specific elementary, middle and high school programs. During the school day and in an after-school setting, the programs are taught by JA-trained volunteer role models from the local business community and the community at-large. Recruited and trained by JA staff, volunteers lead activities while sharing their own life experiences, challenging students to think beyond their present circumstances and reinforcing basic skills crucial to success in the 21st-century economy. Students learn through relevant, hands-on experiences that focus on financial literacy, career/work readiness and entrepreneurship. Established in 1919, Junior Achievement (JA) is dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the global economy. Through a dedicated volunteer network, JA's research-driven educational curriculum provides relevant, hands-on experiences that focus on financial literacy, college/career readiness and entrepreneurship. JA empowers 4.8 million students per year in 106 markets across the United States, with an additional 5.6 million students served by operations worldwide. For more than 70 years, JA of Greater Fairfield County (JAGFC) has had a positive influence on students, from all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds in the communities served.
