Mission

Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE) partners with students to ensure they are ready for, enroll in, and complete college. We confront the challenges of a low-income, urban school district by providing families with equitable access to the critical tools and services necessary for college success.

About

The YPIE Scholars program is a four-year program beginning in 9th grade. These students are recruited from across all eight of the Yonkers public high schools. This year we completed our fourth year and graduated our first YPIE Scholars in June 2017. Our goal is that YPIE Scholars will graduate from a four-year college within 6 years of high school graduation. The program provides three major supports to scholars: academic preparation and enrichment at the afterschool YPIE College Zone, life coaching from adult mentors, college persistence coaching after graduating from high school. One of the most rigorous expectations for all YPIE Scholars is that they attend the YPIE College Zone a minimum of two days per week for approximately three hours per day from October - June. During these afterschool sessions students rotate to multiple learning stations to receive academic tutoring, homework help, literacy support, and enrichment. YPIE Scholars can participate in a five week academic boot camp over the summer at the YPIE College Zone. Additionally, students meet two times per month with their YPIE graduation coach, a trained adult who provides coaching and support for a scholar's full four years in high school. Upon graduating from high school, YPIE Scholars will begin working with a YPIE persistence coach to support them as they transition from high school and succeed in college.
